~Sand Wash Basin Wild Horses~

Have you ever been to a place where you just feel at peace, humbled and grateful? This is how WE feel when we visit the wild horses of Sand Wash Basin! The feeling of freedom reigns here; and as horse lovers, seeing these horses wild and free is a feeling we cannot describe!

However, freedom always comes at a cost, a cost these horses cannot afford, nor do they understand.

Lift your spirit and find your soul.
Photographing the Wild Horses of Sand Wash Basin has brought Amanda and I to a passion-filled purpose. A purpose one knows they are properly on as they see horses they have photographed forever chased into a trap by a helicopter. The look on the horse's faces as they run into the trap is as if they are pleading with you to help them. The yell from the mighty stallion who pleads for his family, but unfortunately, his cries will never be answered. This is just the beginning of our "why" the rest of the story will be written as we continue to help the beautiful souls who gave us a great reason and an amazing purpose.

While this is only one of many HMA's, the Wild Horses of Sand Wash Basin have lifted our spirits and allowed us to find our souls. Our passion to photograph these beauties, capturing moments never to be found again, has led us on a journey to find homes for as many of the captured horses as possible while restoring family bonds whenever possible.

The Bureau of Land Management manages Wild Horses and burros  in 177 Herd Management Areas across  ten western states. Each HMA is unique in its terrain features, local climate and natural resources, just as each herd is unique in its history, genetic heritage, coloring and size distribution.

Grazing rights for cattle and sheep are pushing the wild horses off their land; land we promised them with the Horse and Burro Act in 1971.
